Portfolio Audits
KLD analyzes existing portfolios to ensure compliance with established social and environmental investment guidelines. This service may also include an ongoing review of companies under consideration for inclusion in portfolios.

Examples of client requested Portfolio Audits include audits for compliance with mission-based mandates, the United States Conference Bishops’ Guidelines, Global Sullivan Principles, and ILO Core Labor Conventions.

Universe Reviews
KLD screens established or custom investment universes for client-specified social and environmental issues. KLD has the capability to screen any universe of companies, both domestic and international (including developed and emerging markets), to identify companies that violate the client’s investment guidelines.

Customized Buy Lists
KLD provides customized Buy Lists based on client-specified social and environmental investment guidelines. Buy Lists are often constructed with the use of KLD’s proprietary scoring and ranking system, which enables KLD to rank companies relative to their sector peers or a broader index-based universe.

Customized Restricted Lists
KLD provides Restricted Investment Lists for a range of social and environmental issues. Restricted lists are customized to identify companies that violate established social and environmental investment guidelines, and are often used by money managers to prevent the purchase of problematic equities for client accounts.

Specialized Research
KLD provides research designed to meet the needs of clients with social investing criteria that fall outside of KLD’s standard product offerings. Examples of areas of specialized issue research include animal welfare, Islamic screens (pork production and usury), and embryonic stem cell research.

KLD assists managers and their clients in developing practical social and environmental investment strategies. KLD works closely with clients to establish investment policy statements and screening guidelines that achieve their objectives while maintaining a reasonable investment universe.

KLD provides additional customized research and support services designed to accommodate a client’s social investing needs. Examples of other types of Consulting products and services include the design and support of investment products that are designed for distribution by other financial institutions, attendance at investment committee meetings, and customized company reports.
