Creating a query for companies with an Environment: Substantial Emissions Concern

Getting a list of all of the companies that qualify for a Substantial Emissions Concern is easy to do in Socrates through the Queries tab.

1. Once you have logged into Socrates, select the "Queries" tab. The "Queries" tab is the fourth from the left in the sequence of tabs moving horizontally across the Socrates home page.

2. On the right hand side of the screen you will see a box labeled with your name. Under this box, you will see a "New" button. Click on this button to create a new query.

3. Socrates requires you to provide a name for your Query (e.g. Substantial Emissions Concern) in the "name" entry box. However, you may leave the "description" field blank.

4. Scroll down and click the "save" button at the bottom of your screen.

5. Now, click on the "Advanced" button, which is located directly above the "Save" button.

6. Once you are on the Advanced Queries page, scroll down about ½ way down the page to the "Qualitative Topics" section. You will see the word "Environment" on the far left hand side. Under the concerns box, select the "Substantial Emissions" concern.

7. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click the "Ok" button. Socrates will now return you to the "Queries" page.

8. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click the "Run" button to display your results. From this page, you can export the full list of companies that have an Environment: Substantial Emissions Concern, or use the profile links to view individual profiles.

You can use this type of query to search for any of the KLD social ratings. Select multiple criteria simply by holding down the shift or control key and clicking on the strength or concern rating. Each of the criteria in the Advanced Query section are connected by an "OR," meaning that the query will look for companies that have any of the criteria selected.
