Creating
a query for companies with Human
Rights Concerns or Strengths
Getting a list of all of the
companies that qualify for one or more Human Rights Concerns or
Strengths is easy to do in Socrates through the Queries tab. You
can use this type of query to search for companies that have qualified
for one of more of the strength or concern ratings in any of the
KLD social issue areas.
1. Once you have logged into
Socrates, select the "Queries" tab. The "Queries"
tab is the fourth from the left in the sequence of tabs moving horizontally
across the Socrates home page.
2. On the left hand side you
will see a box labeled "System Queries."
3. Use the arrow to scroll
down until you see "KLD Human Rights Concern >= 1" or
"2," or "KLD Human Rights Strength >= 1" or
"2" and click on it to select that query.
4. Click the "Run"
button, located below the "System Queries" box.
5. The query will generate
a list of companies that meet the selected criteria. Navigate by
clicking "Next Page" or on a specific page number. You
can also use the buttons located at the bottom of the query results
to either save the list as a portfolio, or export the results to
a spreadsheet.
KLD's coverage of human rights
issues encompasses three strength ratings and four concern ratings,
including an "Other" category for positive or negative
issues that fall outside of the parameters for the defined strengths
and concerns. To get definitions for the strength and concern ratings,
click on the "Ratings Definition" link on the left side
of the screen of any company profile to access a .pdf document with
all of the strength and concern ratings, or click on any of the
black or clear diamonds in a particular issue area within a company's
profile for the definitions of the strengths and concerns for that
issue.
