Urban Forum Invites Your Participation in a Global Internet Dialogue
on Urban Sustainability, December 1-3, 2005
The World Urban Forum (WUF) is convened by UN-HABITAT every two
years to discuss urban issues for the purposes of developing action-oriented
proposals to advance urban sustainability. The Government of Canada
will host the next WUF in Vancouver in June 2006. It is expected
to bring together a many as ten thousand people to debate ideas
and issues about sustainable urban development.
Habitat JAM, an unprecedented
global Internet dialogue planned for December 1-3, 2005, will convene
tens of thousands of people to stimulate actionable ideas for urban
sustainability in advance of the WUF. Business leaders, financial
professionals, academics, street kids, parliamentarians, civil society
organizations, and others are expected to gather online over 72
hours to discuss solutions for how to make our cities more sustainable.
World leaders and world-class thinkers will lead and moderate the
discussions.
Peter Kinder will participate in the Habitat Jam. This is an exciting opportunity to offer further thought on the role of sustainable investment.
Key themes to discuss include
Finance and Governance, Access to Water, Environmental Sustainability,
Safety and Security, and other topics to advance urban sustainability.
JAM technology, designed by IBM, will be used for the first time
in an open democratic forum. It has the potential to reshape the
nature of public participation in global policy and strategy dialogues.
The results, including key themes and actionable ideas, will be
summarized and circulated globally after the event and considered
in the finalization of the official WUF agenda for discussion during
the June 2006 meeting.
We need to hear from socially
responsible investors and financial institutions that believe it
is possible to make money while making a difference. Your interest
in creating a secure financial future, but not at any cost, puts
you in a position to bring valuable insight to this global discussion
about the role of finance in creating sustainable cities.
This is an opportunity for
you to share your ideas on how to improve world conditions through
sustainable finance, socially responsible investment and sustainable
governance. The JAM is a portal to thousands of ideas to help you
refine your thinking on ways to advance urban sustainability. This
is a chance to test your own ideas on an informed audience. The
JAM's open design helps participants to generate break-through ideas.
It is a unique opportunity to test-drive innovative technology designed
to reform the nature of public consultation and democratic participation.
Come and join other people
who work in similar fields around the world. Promote your work and
your organization to a global audience. The ideas generated will
be considered at the WUF by those in a position to take action.
The JAM record will be broadly distributed, creating opportunities
for further debate in local and national settings around the world.
An unusual and creative engagement process, the JAM is positioned
to generate unique insights that have the potential to transform
society towards sustainability. Be part of it.
