Boston,
MA -- April 27, 2006 -- For
the seventh straight year, KLD Research & Analytics, Inc.'s
SOCRATES database has served as the research basis for
the social, environmental, and governance criteria used
for Business Ethics magazine's annual list of the
"100 Best Corporate Citizens" in America.
"KLD
has provided research for Business Ethics since
the inception of its '100 Best Corporate Citizens' list,"
said Eric Fernald, KLD’s Director of Research. "We
are pleased to be recognized as the source for the most
comprehensive social, environmental, and governance data
on public companies in the United States."
The
firms on the Business Ethics 100 list are ranked
on both financial information and on their performance
in eight categories: shareholders, community, governance,
diversity, employees, environment, human rights, and product.
The universe of companies covered encompasses firms on
the Russell 1000, S&P 500 and the Domini Social Index
400.
This
year, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters of Waterbury, VT
(NASDAQ: GMCR) tops the list. It is the fourth year Green
Mountain has been among the top 10 companies on the Business
Ethics list.
Rounding
out the top ten are: Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HPQ)
at number two, Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD) at number
three, Motorola (NYSE: MOT) at number four, Agilent Technologies
(NYSE: A) is number five, The Timberland Company (NYSE:
TBL) at number six, Salesforce.com, Inc. (NYSE: CRM) is
in seventh position, Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO)
at number eight, Dell Inc. (NASDAQ: DELL) is number nine,
and Texas Instruments Incorporated (NYSE: TXN) is number
ten. More details about the 100 Best Corporate Citizens
is available at: www.business-ethics.com/whats_new/100best.html.
What's
striking about the 2006 list is the strong showing by
the technology sector.
According
to Marjorie Kelly, Editor of Business Ethics, most top
technology companies score well on environmental issues,
and tend to have employee-friendly work environments.
"Technology firms know that to attract and retain
talent, it pays to be socially enlightened," Kelly
said.
