Regions Financial Corp. Added to
KLD's Domini 400 Social Index

BOSTON, MA - May 24, 2005 - KLD Research & Analytics, Inc. announced today that Regions Financial Corp. (RF) has been added to KLD's Domini 400 SocialSM Index (DS 400 Index). Regions Financial is headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama.(DS 400 Index).

Regions Financial provides community banking, mortgage banking and treasury services. The company has bank branches in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

Reasons KLD added the company to the Domini 400 Social Index

  • Regions Financial has a strong record in the area of small business loans. In January 2003, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) ranked Regions Financial as the number one small business-friendly lender in fiscal year 2001. The company was also ranked first in the United States, for two consecutive years, in a separate Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) analysis that evaluated SBA lending.
  • The company's Union Planters subsidiary, acquired in 2004, has various loan programs that target low and moderate-income lenders. Union Planters participates in HomeSAFE Memphis, a refinance program that helps borrowers free themselves of "predatory" first mortgages loans. Union Planters has committed $10 million to a lending program for low and moderate-income neighborhoods and designated a mortgage-lending officer to focus on those neighborhoods. In addition, the company collaborates on a home improvement loan program run specifically to avoid abusive lending in home improvement borrowing.
  • The company has strong representation of women and minorities on its board. Four of the company's 26-member board of directors are women or minorities.
  • Regions Financial has a cash profit-sharing program for all full-time employees.
