UnitedHealth Group, Inc. Added to
KLD's Domini 400 Social Index

         BOSTON, MA - August 02, 2004 - KLD Research & Analytics, Inc., an independent investment research firm, announced today that UnitedHealth Group Inc. (UNH) has been added to KLD's Domini 400 SocialSM Index. UnitedHealth Group, Inc. is headquartered in Minnetonka, Minnesota.

          UnitedHealth Group, Inc. provides health care coverage and health care information services and products. The company offers a variety of health plan services for small and mid-size employers, as well as large companies. In addition, the company has health plans for Medicare, Medicaid, and Child Health Insurance Program (CHIP) patients, and supplemental health insurance for AARP members. The company's Specialized Care Services segment offers mental health, dental, and substance abuse services.

Reasons KLD added the company to the Domini 400 Social Index

  • The company has strong representation of women and minorities in senior management and on its board. One woman serves among the company's seven principal senior line executives. Lois E. Quam is CEO of the company's Ovations subsidiary. Four of of the company's 12-member board of directors are women or minorities.

  • UnitedHealth Group has a policy against discrimination based on sexual orientation and provides domestic partner medical benefits to qualified partners.

  • In July 2004, UnitedHealth Group, Inc. acquired Oxford Health Plans, Inc. a constituent of the Domini 400 Social Index. Oxford Health Plans is a provider of innovative, high-quality health management products. The company sets notably high standards for the doctors it approves for its plans and only accepts doctors with hospital admitting privileges.
