Polycom, Inc. Added to
KLD's Domini 400 Social Index

BOSTON, MA - September 02, 2004 - KLD Research & Analytics, Inc., an independent investment research firm, announced today that Polycom, Inc. (PLCM) has been added to KLD's Domini 400 SocialSM Index. Polycom, Inc. is headquartered in Pleasanton, California.

Polycom, Inc. develops and manufactures communication systems including videoconferencing and voice conferencing. The company's network products include media servers, call processing servers, network management, webconferencing software, and scheduling software. Polycom also provides professional services and support and maintenance for its products.

Reasons KLD added the company to the Domini 400 Social Index

  • Polycom has a partnership with the Association of College Educators--Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing (ACE-D/HH) and ReView Video to establish a program to improve nationwide deaf education. ACE-D/HH uses Polycom's ViewStation group video conferencing systems for its national network that teaches best practices for deaf education. The company's high video quality enables signing and lip-reading for those students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.

  • Polycom works with Medical Missions for Children, a nonprofit organization that seeks to improve the level of medical care available to children in poor and remote areas of the U.S. and other countries through the use of sophisticated telecommunications technology. Participating hospitals in developing countries can videoconference with hospitals and medical specialists in the U.S. for help with diagnosis and treatment for children with severe medical conditions.

  • Sunil Bhalla, an Asian American, is senior vice president and general manager for voice communications.
