Corporation Added to the KLD Domini 400 Social Indexsm
BOSTON, MA - March
11, 2003 KLD Research & Analytics, Inc., an
independent research firm, announced today that
Allied Capital Corporation (ALD) has been added
to the KLD Domini 400 Social Indexsm. Allied Capital
Corporation is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
Allied Capital Corporation provides financing for
development-stage companies and mortgage loans for
commercial organizations. The company's investment
portfolio consisted of private finance, commercial
mortgage securities, and other commercial real estate
assets.
Reasons KLD added the company to the DS 400 Index
The company was added to KLD's DS 400 Index for
several reasons, including:
- Allied Capital,
through its Business Loan Express subsidiary, provides small
business financing for many minority and women-owned firms.
Approximately 60% of the companies that receive financing from
Business Loan Express are women-or minority-owned. Business Loan
Express offers Small Business Association (SBA) loans, including
SBA 7a loans, and U.S Department of Agriculture loans to small
business owners or future owners that are often excluded from
traditional financing options. To qualify for a SBA 7a loan, a
borrower must show that he or she has been denied traditional
financing.
- Allied Capital has
strong representation of women in senior management. Two women
serve among the company's three principal senior line executives:
the chief operating officer and the chief financial officer.
- Through its employee
stock option plan, Allied capital has made a significant
commitment to employee involvement. The company offers stock
options to 50% of its employees and has made grants in the last
two fiscal years.
