SOCRATES includes Company Profiles, which provide an in-depth analysis on a range of issues that reflect a company's overall social and environmental record. Also included is a company’s involvement in a range of business activities that are controversial to certain social investors.
Research can be accessed directly online or downloaded to a variety of formats.
Functionality
Portfolio Screening
SOCRATES allows users to manage and screen portfolios of global companies worldwide on a variety of social and environmental issues, all in one place:
- Easily create a portfolio by copying and pasting a list of tickers from MS Excel
- Apply 100+ social, environmental & involvement screens
- Screen companies in a portfolio by comparing its score to the industry average or index average
- Monitor changes to the pass/fail status of companies in your portfolio
List Generation
SOCRATES has a multi-faceted query capability. Users can generate lists based on social ratings or statistical data, using single or multiple criteria.
- Generate global restricted lists for screening client portfolios or screening domestic and international markets and benchmarks
- Generate global buy lists that meet your client's social investment guidelines for use as an investment universe
- Query SOCRATES using the social statistics tracked by KLD. For example, users can determine all of the companies with zero women or minorities in its board of directors.
- Run key word search for words or phrases in SOCRATES Company Profiles
Shareholder Actions
SOCRATES contains information about current and historical shareholder actions, including the exact text of proxy resolutions, compiled by the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR).
- Monitor up-coming shareholder resolutions for companies in your portfolio
- Follow the responsiveness of companies over time to shareholder resolutions
- Know the issues that active shareholders are pursuing

Universe
Over 55,000 companies in the global publicly traded universe are evaluated for involvement in controversial business issues.
Over 3,000 U.S. publicly traded companies reviewed for KLD’s full set of social, environmental, and governance indicators.

Company information is updated daily and published bi-monthly to SOCRATES.

Company Profiles can be saved and printed in PDF format at any time. Company lists and portfolio screening can also be exported into MS Excel.

SOCRATES is compatible with proxy server technology and can be accessed via IP authentication.
